AFTERIMAGE, 2025
Gobo projector, motor, electronics, reclaimed pole
Installation view at Franconia Sculpture Park, 2025-
Afterimage is a light sculpture built from a gobo projector, motor, electronics, and reclaimed pole. By day, its slender form casts a shifting shadow that marks time and movement. At sunset, it uses an implementation of a Solar Positioning Algorithm to calculate that day’s path of the sun in reverse - slowly retracing the movement of the shadow through a motor-controlled projector. Through nearly imperceptible movement, the sculpture reanimates the dialogue between sun, earth, and the structure itself with man-made light. By merging digital tools with the natural rhythms of time’s passage, Afterimage gives form to the ephemeral, reflecting on how perception, memory, and technology shape our experience of time and space.
